Elopement Wedding at Eilean Donan Castle

Elopement weddings at Eilean Donan Castle are such a romantic way to tie the know are Simon & Katharina came all the way from Germany to celebrate their union at this incredible location. We have been blessed with some stunning weather this year and their special day was no exception, the late afternoon sun beat down on them as they walked together over the bridge to stand on the terrace with views down Loch Alsh and Loch Duich as they said “I do.”

After signing the register, cutting the cake and sipping some champagne we worked our way around the castle getting some stunning shots of the couple and their witnesses at this grand location.

This adventurous couple wanted to make sure that they would have a way of letting all their friends and family know about their Scottish Highland Castle Elopement so we made sure to get a shot that summed all that up for an elopement announcement card to be sent out. It was a day to be remembered!

Couples Wedding Anniversary Photoshoot

We love doing photoshoots of couples in love, sometimes it’s new love and they are on a getaway in the highlands, sometimes it’s a engagement photo session to make a wedding announcement card from and other times it is a celebration of a wedding anniversary captured with the stunning backdrop of the Isle of Skye like our most recent couple.

Gregory and Victoria, who traveled all the way from the American midwest to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary, were looking for highland photographers who could capture their loving connection while they shared this new experience together.  For their anniversary photoshoot they not only wanted a gorgeous location but something that symbolised the history of Scotland where Victoria’s family emigrated from long ago. We decided to take them to Castle Moil a coastal ruin on the eastern edge of the Isle of Skye.

The elements are ever changing in the highlands and so when we are planning a photoshoot we always have backup locations incase of inclement weather. While we were at the castle a we saw a weather front moving in so we decided to take a break and have a coffee, it didn’t take long for the skies to start clearing to the east so we headed a short distance to the village of Plockton and headed out on foot to another location that we love.

We used the Applecross Mountains and Loch Kishorn as a backdrop to our second set of photos. There was a sprinkling of snow on the mountains and the waters were a deep blue and the last of the days sunlight lit up the trees. We had a wonderful time and Greg and Victoria got to see some spots of the beaten track. Here’s to another amazing 5 years!!!

The Quiraing, Isle of Skye

I love Scotland in all of it moods of weather but there is nothing like endless blue skies and 360 degree views when hiking some of the most famous spots on the Isle of Skye. I went with two visiting friends to hike the Quiraing on this gorgeous sunny day where we had just the right amount of breeze and the temperature was perfect. As you start from the parking lot you can head up to the highest point or straight ahead along a path which starts out fairly level which is what we decided to do. To the right there are steep drops from the very narrow path and you can see down to the road far below with tiny cars zooming along. Up ahead rock formations are jutting out of the lush green carpeted land which is dotted with grazing sheep. As we wind along the paths and take pause to look around my friend comments how the land looks like breaking waves rolling into the shore which we later researched the geology of to discover this has been caused by a series of landslips some of which are still active. After exploring the needle and posing for those all so necessary silly photographs for the friends and family back home we reached the top and stopped for lunch. Not often that you get lunch with such a stunning view! On the way back we held onto our hats,  looking back down on the walk we just did, as strong gust of wind blew from the sea and straight up the cliff face below. An excellent day out that I would recommend to anyone with a basic skill level in hiking, it took us a very leisurely 4.5 hours.

Somewhere at Greenman Festival

In the SOMEWHERE FEILD at Greenman Festival in Wales kids and parents alike found themselves transported to the land of madness with our best photobooth yet! We had a fantastic selection of hats, capes, crazy sleeves, sunglasses, ray guns and lobster hands. The Somewhere Field is for teenagers, which is an age group that is often left out in festival planning, but of course parents are welcome and I think secretly they love it too and are happy to tag along. What set this photobooth off was not just the awesome costume selection but our background which was created by painting with light. We created this set up by using our customised marquee and asked people to select their crazy costumes, enter the marquee and strike a pose.

With the combination of dressing up clothes and our photographic handy work we created a unique experience that had excited kids and inspired adults into finding their inner child. All of the pictures were free to download after the festival so that everyone could share the images with their friends and parents, this was a massive success and we are looking forward to sharing the experience at more festivals.
